Ukraine – is the biggest country of Eastern Europe
A geographical center of Europe is located at the Zakarpattia region not far from Rakhiv city. Ukraine lets through its territory major transport highways of Western Europe, which are connected with the countries of Transcaucasia and the Central Asia.
The territory of Ukraine occupies 603.7 thousand square kilometers (43th in the world). Which makes up 5.7% of the territory of Europe and 0,44 of the territory of the Earth.

The population of the country is more than 46 million (26th in the world). Which makes up 7,3 % of the population of Europe and 1 % of the population of the Earth.
Ukrainians account for 80 % of the population, the others - Russians, Byelorussians, Crimean Tatars, Armenians, Moldavians, Bulgarians, Hungarians, Romanians, Poles, Greeks, Jews, Germans, atc.
Urban population exceeds 66 % of inhabitants.
Main languages: the Ukrainian (prevails in the West of Ukraine) and Russian language (prevails in the East and in the South of Ukraine).
Ukraine is the industrially-agrarian country.
The most developed branches of industry: metallurgy, power engineering (atomic and hydroelectric power stations on the Dnieper), chemical and mining industry (coal, ore). Except coal there are gas and oil resouces. Donetsk, Lugansk, Dniepropetrovsk, Zaporozhye regions, the cities of Kyev, Kharkiv, Odessa, Lviv - are the most economically developed.
Ukraine is a member of the World Trade Organization.
The Orthodox religion prevails in the country. In Western Ukraine there you can see Rimo-Catholic and Greco-Catholic churches. There are also Protestants and Jews in Ukraine. Islam is spread in the south of Ukraine and in the Crimea (the Crimean Tatars living place).
Currency: the Ukrainian Hryvnia (UAH, the CODE 980). Foreign currency can be exchanged in any exchange office or in a bank.
