Estate museum of Lesya Ukrainka
Visit a literary memorial complex of Kolodyazhnt village (Volyn region) where Lesya Ukrainka spent her childhood and youth.
The estate museum exposition will tell you about life of the great Ukrainian poetess; hundreds of household items, works, published during her lifetime and photographs will tell you about her courage and fortitude. Near the Peter and Paul Church located in Lutsk you can visit the family house of Kosaches (real name of Lesya Ukrainka) where the poetess lived in the late XIX century. At present time the house is a place of management of the State Historical and Cultural Reserve of Lutsk.
In most cases one can hardly find the words to say about something important. In such cases feelings and experiences are expressed by paints and sounds touching special soul strings. The same situation with the inner creative world of the famous Ukrainian writer whose soul was played in unison with the soul of Ukrainian people. Lesya’s creativity is associated with a Ukrainian song: special music and poetic words embodied her unrealized dream of becoming a musician - at the age of 12, after fell ill seriously, she waged an endless war for her life. Being extraordinarily talented, vulnerable, sincere, spiritually indomitable and characterizing by a strong, hot poetic word she was particularly sensitive to human pain and adamant in her service to people. She considered that a poet is called to serve as a weapon of spiritual liberation of people.
In many Lesya’s poems one can read words “wings” and “song” repeated. In fact, the strongest dream of the poet was to fly up breaking the shackles of a weak body and progressing disease; her poem lines were always filled with soft and mournful tunes of her native land wherever she was: either under the hot sun of Egypt, or a gray and rainy sky of Germany, or the shores of the Mediterranean Sea in Greece ...
