Berdychiv

Welcome to a cozy and small town of Berdychiv (Zhytomyr region), that is an old Jewish town whose past was glorified in popular folklore.

Here you can visit St.Barbara Cathedral, a place where a prominent French writer Honore de Balzac got married with countess Evelyn Ghana. You are to meet an interesting architecture complex of Berdychiv Historical and Cultural reserve where you will find an old fortress with kostel presented to barefoot Carmelites (they were so called because of their contemptuous attitude to wealth and enrichment of representatives of ecclesiastical societies especially).

There is an icon of the Berdychiv Mother of God that was consecrated and crowned by Pope John Paul II (local citizens believe that this was an icon that had healed the Pope). 
A lot of pilgrims from all over the world come here to touch an icon of the Mother of God and get their healing.

Walking along the city center you will see the main Jewish site, that is a tomb of a Hasidism leader Zadik Levy Yitzhak Ben Meyer (this very place is
annually visited by thousands of Jews from all over the world). Here you can meet an interesting architecture of past times, taste local and fresh intoxicating drink (Berdychiv beer plant is situated just in the center of the city), see the only one spared line of small-section railway earlier connecting enterprises of sugar industry but currently passing along the city streets.
