Chernihiv Region

There is the unique “prince town” Novgorod-Siverskyj, that has no analogues in the sense of city planning, with the only museum in the world of the “Slovo o Polku Ihoreve” (“The Word about Ihor’s Army”) (that is the most famous memorial of the ancient Russian literature). In the town Kozelets You could visit the Cathedral of the Nativity of the Virgin with its famous wooden iconostasis, and also wooden churches, unique museums, the interesting monuments of the town Nizhyn.

You are awaited by the legendary hetman’s capital Baturyn, where You can meet the Historical and Cultural Reserve “The Museum of Hetmancy” and the architectural masterpiece – the Razumovsky’s palace. As a pleasant addition, You will have a chance to enjoy the extraordinary beauty of Desna Obolon (the picturesque calm landscapes of the plain river Desna).

This is a region, where prominent people lived and created: the prince Ihor was going out form here to battle with Polovcians, the fateful congress of Russian princes was held there, that had as a result the idea of the uniting of small principalities into one mighty state. There was the founder of the Russian monasticism St. Antoniy lived in Chernihiv, and the most stressful fate of the Ukrainian Cossacks is also tightly connected with this place.
