Dnipropetrovsk Region

Welcome to the largest region of the central Ukraine, which was the subject of contention of the Golden Horde, Lithuanian Principality and Crimean Khanate – Dnipropetrovsk Region.

You are awaited by the center of rocket and space-flight industry of Ukraine (there is a famous Southern Machine-Building Plant, which has developed a legendary rocket “Satan”), metallurgical and machine base of Ukraine – its industrial giants “Kryvorizhstal” and “Nyzhn’odniprovskyj Tube-Rolling Plant” are the biggest producers of metal products in south-western Europe (“Kryvorizhstal” was sold in 2005 on open auction to the world leader in metallurgy “Lakshmi Mittal” for $4.8 bio.
You will travel to a region, which has leading place in Europe on stocks of various minerals and rocks, that form unusual relief landscapes on the boundless plains of river Dnipro. You can see the unique old Troickyj cathedral (the only monumental wooden church with nine cupolas in Ukraine) and a fragment of the historic “Fortification wall”, built in XVIII AD for protection of the southern borders of Russian Empire there. You can also visit the grave of a legendary Cossack leader I. Sirko (who was elected as ataman of Zaporizka Sich 8 times) and Historical Museum, where You are awaited by the biggest collection in the world of stone “babas” (“old women”) (the enigmatic monuments of ancient stone plastic).

There is a mystical Mavryn hill (near the city of Pavlograd), with symmetric mound walls of unusual form, going after the sun in different times of the year. There was an altar of pagan temple, extraordinary power of which energy You can feel even today. You will be met by majestic city of Dnipropetrovsk and Dniprovsko-Orilskyj Natural Reserve – with tear-clear waters of river Orel, romantic sand dunes and proud oakwoods in the middle of plain spaces.

You will make familiar Yourself with the city of miners Ordzhonikidze (with its unique archeological founds – the treasures from king’s mound), industrial Kryvyj Rig (with its biggest pit in Ukraine, more than one kilometer deep) and Kytaygorod (“Chinatown”) (with remains of the continental glacier, which moved from Scandinavia about 200.000 years ago).
