If you want to find yourself in the Middle Age you should visit the Genoese fortress. This is a place where you feel a special breathe of centuries-old history (located not far from Sudak, (Crimea).

Walking around the fortress you feel how many events took place behind these very walls: it saw Alans (ancestors of Dagestan tribes), Khazars, Polovtsians; later on Turks and Mongols who destroyed the walls only for a reason that it was shame for Mongols to hide behind the walls) . If you enter a two-story tower standing at the precipice you can find a long secret passage leading downwards (such a concept allowed to reach the ship quickly in case of attacks).
