Mykolaiv was planned as a shipborne city and still remains the ship-building capital of Ukraine.
Three of the most powerful ship-building yards (constructing ships of all types) and higher education institutions, teaching all modern ship-building professions are situated here.
If you are fond of yachting, you should definitely participate in Mykolaiv yachting trip. The fact that the first Ukrainian yacht club was founded here too, witnesses Mykolaiv to be a famous center of yachting sports and leisure.

Mykolaiv Zoo would obviously make a remarkable point of interest. It is one of the oldest and most developed zoos in whole Ukraine. Besides, Mykolaiv Zoo is a valid member of European Zoo Association. More than 350 animals, many of them being listed in the Red book, may be seen here.

If you are tired of long trips and sightseeing you will have a perfect opportunity to refresh your energy in “Vodoliy” (“Aquarius”). “Vodoliy” is a swimming-pool with hydromassage equipment and waterslides, corresponding to all European standards. “Vodoliy” is also very popular among local citizens.

Mykolaiv is a multinational city, having inherited different cultures and ancient civilizations. Ruins of early settlement Dikiy Sad (Savage garden) surrounded by modern buildings may be found here. Dikiy Sad is considered to be just several years younger then the Pyramids. This settlement gave its name to the asteroid, discovered by the Crimean observatory.
