You are invited by Ostroh (Rivne region), a thousand years’ city that gave a birth to the first higher educational institution for Eastern Slavs and the first printed world-known Slavonic Bible.

You are going to see majestic architecture and unique culture objects. Their appearances were connected with Ostrotzky prince dynasty – prominent commanders, patrons and builders of Ukraine.

The Ostroh castle is waiting for you. This is a residence of Ostrotzky family (silhouette of the castle church served as a city symbol) built on the territory of an ancient large city at 20 meters height. At present time you will see the local history museum where you can learn a lot of old legends and stories. One of the legends is about princess Galshka Ostrotzky (the most beautiful bride of Eastern Europe in XVI century). After being forced to get married the princess jumped out of the window. Her sad image can be seen on the castle mountain at night time.

Famous Ostroh Slavonic-Greek-Latin Academy, so called Ukrainian Athens, was the first higher school on the eastern-European lands. According to traditions its students learned seven free sciences and five foreign languages. Today this is the National University that is proud of its name and keeps growing elite following high traditions of spirituality and enlightenment.

You are to see a unique museum of book and printing. There you will see the first Ukrainian book (Greek-Slavonic “Azbuka” - alphabet), “Ostroh Bible”, the first one translated to Slavonic and the first fundamental Slavic Grammar that is presently used for writing and reading. If you want to see all anniversary coins of Ukraine, local paper money and coupons, you should drop in a numismatics museum.

 Not far from Ostroh there is the Holy Trinity Cathedral where you can touch a miracle working icon of the Virgin. Come to Ostroh in order to see such a big number of wonders located in such a small city…
