Putyvl

Welcome to Putyvl (Sumy region), a legendary town-fortress mentioned in a famous monument of Old Russian literature “Slovo o polku Igoreve” (The Lay of the Campaign of Igor).

This is a place where princess Yaroslavna was grieving the fate of her husband prince Igor. Lamentations of Yaroslavna are engraved in a stone sculpture (a monument to Yaroslavna can be seen on a hill).
Its heroic history Putyvl owes to Sidor Kovpak, a leader of partisan movement playing an important role in World War II. One of the numerous hills of Putyvl will show you a monument to Kovpak erected on the background of lovely landscapes.You can also visit “Silent” forest, a memorial to partisan glory. 
Putyvl will demonstrate you its old churches, such as St. Nickolas Cossack church, Our Savior Transfiguration Cathedral with a church-bell tower, and ensemble of Molchansky fortress-monastery with the Nativity of the Mother of God Cathedral. Local history museum will tell you about history of the land (you will see a chair of False Dmitriy and “Gospel” dated from the beginning of XVII century). Visit a beautiful and ancient city protected by high trees of old forests, vast meadows and valleys of the Seim and Vyr rivers. All this nature created a favorable condition for National natural park.

Come to Putyvl, a city that for a long period of time was the biggest spiritual center of Ukraine and Rus.
