The most ancient and the most western Ukrainian town is looking forward to welcome you.

It is Uzhgorod (Zakarpattia region), which has been preparing to meet you for more than a thousand years.

In order to invite you for a walk it has grown up the Europe’s longest Lime avenue, that is ready to give you its aroma and cool during the whole summer (different sorts of lime are blossoming
here alternately, guarding your good mood).

Like a real gentleman, getting ready for the date, the town will amaze you with its bouquet – hundreds of blooming pink-and-white oriental cherries, magnolias, Japanese quinces and Chinese apple-trees (to enjoy this beauty you should come here in May or April).
Another sight of interest is the foot bridge, fulfilling wishes. It is an ancient stone bridge, joining two parts of Uzhgorod.
And when you will be walking along the bridge across the river Uzh, necessarily make a wish and it will definitely come true.
Loving couples have a wonderful tradition – to hang a lock on the handrail as a sign of their strong feelings and throw away the key into the river.

After that the town is offering you to visit open-air Folk Architecture Museum, that will show you original dwellings of the ancient people that inhabited this land. The museum is situated in the unusual place – famous Witch’s pit, where the witches were burnt down in the medieval times
(it is said that in a full moon the fire appears here and witches come flying here).

To continue with its mythical theme, Uzhgorod invites you on the excursion in its favourite ancient castle (monumental building in the town centre) to tell you a poethic legend. A girl of astonishing beauty used to live in this castle, who fell in love with the Polish officer and told him about the secret passage in the castle (its underground labyrinths are joining Novitsky and Mukachevsky castles). The couple was caught, the Polish was executed and the girl was bricked up alive. And since then her ghost is haunting the castle every night looking for her beloved.
Don’t refuse to yourself a pleasure to help yourself a cup of coffee as you’re in the capital of coffee fans, which is world-known with its traditions of coffee drinking. In every office and home here there is a coffee machine and an exclusive recipe. You will be charmed with the rites of its preparing and the culture of coffee drinking – as though the whole world around you stands still and fills with the magic aroma of this awesome drink.

Antique architecture, picturesque houses, ancient temples, quiet foot streets, cosy coffee shops are inviting to continue exciting acquaintance with the town. And if you would like to communicate with the local people, you will never guess with which accent passers-by will respond to you (it is an influence of policultural cocktail of Hungarian, Romanian, Czech, Gipsy, German, Ukrainian, Polish traditions). But now and then you will be amazed with the special sincere warmth, which every resident will be eager to give you, as they wish you loved their town as much as they do…
